Experts of CIVITTA analyzed dynamics of retail market development in Kaliningrad region
2016-08-05Experts of Civitta Kaliningrad have successfully completed another project in retail sector. The project team has developed and tested methodology of assessing the market share and turnover of retail chains. Based on research there were made the following conclusions.
From 2013 to 2015 there was an increase in retail trade turnover both in the Kaliningrad region (23.5%) and in Russia (16.4%) as a whole. Individual retail trade chains also demonstrated growth, which has been mostly due to rise in prices, rather than an actual increase in the number of items sold.
In comparable prices of 2015 turnover of Russian and Kaliningrad region retail trade has decreased: in Russia by 8.8%, in the Kaliningrad region by 6.2%.
The leader of Kaliningrad retail market is a Group of Companies "Victoria", which was bought by large Russian food retail chain "Dixie" in 2011. Today "Victoria" Group is represented in Moscow and Kaliningrad regions. Retail turnover of the Group in Kaliningrad region increased during 2013-2015 by 25%. Company's market share in total in Kaliningrad food retail trade turnover in 2015 amounted to about 22%, which is in line with the norms of antimonopoly law of Russia. Second place among the retail chains according to market share belongs to trading chain "Vester" (12%). At the moment, "Vester" is represented by 16 supermarket stores, 3 hypermarkets and two premium class stores. The most significant growth in retail trade turnover in the reporting period was demonstrated by retail chain "Family" (59.7%). In July 2014 first "SPAR", which belongs to the same chain supermarket, was opened in Kaliningrad region.
Overal, it was identified that all the market participants do not exceed the norms of market share, regulated by antimonopoly law of Russian Federation.
