Draudimas.It: designing a digital platform

Client Overview: 

Draudimas has long been Lithuania’s #1 insurance aggregator and is part of AON, one of the world’s leading international brokerage houses. More than just the biggest player in the market, Draudimas was also the first to educate customers that insurance could be purchased online, becoming the first to sell insurance at scale through a fully digital experience.

At the core of the platform is smart price comparison. Users receive offers from multiple insurance providers and can choose and purchase the best option seamlessly, without ever leaving the website.

The Challenge:

The Draudimas audience is extremely diverse and often not highly digitally savvy, especially for mandatory car insurance, which applies to virtually everyone on the road. As a financial product company, their main goal was to create a friendly, approachable experience, reflected in a playful, simple, and welcoming brand. They offer a wide range of insurance products, all available online, with customizable user flows that adapt based on individual inputs –  for example, different steps and requirements if a car is from the US rather than the EU, making the process easy to understand and complete.

With mobile usage on the rise, the second key focus was ensuring a seamless experience on small screens, alongside smart cross-selling that encourages users to consider additional coverage, from travel to home insurance, using information they’ve already provided. This resulted in a user-friendly checkout, a smooth self-service journey, and a platform that helps users protect their family and assets in one place. To bring this vision to life, Draudimas partnered with Civitta for its ability to simplify complexity through intuitive design and to build a scalable solution that can grow and expand over time, without requiring a complete redesign.

Our Approach:

At the time, strong local market examples were virtually non-existent, and there were even fewer high-quality international references for large-scale online insurance platforms. With limited benchmarks to follow, we relied on our core design approach, starting with in-depth interviews with users and insurance teams, who work directly with these products to understand real needs, pain points, and workflows.

These insights shaped multiple rounds of iteration, where we simplified complex journeys step by step through wireframing and detailed design. Throughout the process, we worked in close collaboration with the internal development team to ensure smooth implementation. The platform was ultimately built in-house by the client’s developers and fully designed by Civitta as the external design partner.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of the platform has been significant. It has stood the test of time, maintaining its leadership position despite a constantly changing digital landscape. By introducing price comparison and online purchasing as early as 2012–2015, Draudimas not only stayed ahead of the market but also influenced local insurance companies, many of which followed with similar digital solutions only after 2020. In many ways, it helped shape the entire industry’s move online, educating customers that buying insurance no longer requires a visit to a broker, but can be done in just a few minutes on a phone or computer.

The platform covers a wide range of insurance products, with a strong focus on mandatory car insurance and extended KASKO, alongside travel and real estate insurance as the main offerings. Beyond purchasing, the portal also supports B2B customers with claims handling, providing a dedicated submission form and user interface to help clients manage and resolve claims efficiently in one place.
