UniYou
UniYou is a next-generation student employment platform designed to connect Generation Z job seekers with employers through a fully digital experience. Built to replace the outdated, manual processes used by school associations and HR teams, UniYou brings the entire employment lifecycle – from job discovery to paycheck – into a single, cohesive digital ecosystem.
Student employment has long been managed through fragmented, paper-heavy processes that serve neither students nor employers well. School associations relied on time-consuming, non-digital workflows that created friction at every stage – from posting vacancies to signing contracts and tracking attendance. As younger generations entered the workforce with entirely different expectations around technology and convenience, the gap between what legacy processes offered and what users demanded had become impossible to ignore.
Civitta led the end-to-end product design and development process, from initial UX research through to final delivery across web and mobile platforms.
The project began with a thorough UX research phase to map the pain points of both students and employers navigating the existing process. This research surfaced the core inefficiencies – disconnected tools, manual contracting, no unified attendance or payment tracking – and established the product requirements that would drive every subsequent design decision.
With a clear understanding of user needs and system constraints, the team designed streamlined end-to-end employment journeys for both student and HR personas. Wireframes were developed iteratively and validated against real user feedback, ensuring that the improved experience was both intuitive and implementable. A comprehensive design system was established to ensure visual and functional consistency across all platforms and touchpoints.
Using a modern technology stack – Elixir, React, and Flutter – the team built and delivered three core products: a mobile application for students, a web-based administrative interface for HR teams, and a shared design system underpinning both. QA was integrated throughout the delivery cycle to maintain quality at pace.
The team delivered a fully functional, end-to-end digital student employment platform – covering mobile, web, and design system – across both Android and iOS. UniYou now handles the complete employment lifecycle in one place: job applications, digital contracting, identity verification, attendance registration, and payment tracking.
The platform directly addressed the inefficiencies of legacy school association processes, giving students a seamless mobile-first experience and giving HR teams a powerful web-based tool to manage the full hiring and work cycle. The Generation Z-oriented design achieved its goal of feeling native to a younger audience while remaining approachable for a wider user base.
1. Digitising a process end-to-end is more impactful than optimising its parts: Rather than patching individual pain points, the team redesigned the entire student employment journey from scratch – delivering compounding value across every touchpoint from application to paycheck.
2. Designing for two audiences requires two distinct lenses: Building for both students and HR representatives in a single product demanded clear persona separation at the research stage, ensuring that neither user group’s experience was compromised to serve the other.
3. A design system is a delivery accelerator, not just a design asset: Establishing a shared design system early in the process enabled faster, more consistent development across web and mobile, reducing rework and maintaining product coherence at scale.
4. Generation Z design is a standard, not a niche: Designing for younger users’ expectations – speed, clarity, minimal friction – produced a product that works better for everyone, not just its primary demographic.
