Supporting wood pellet producer Warmeston throughout their sustainable development journey

Client

Warmeston

Warmeston is an Estonian premium pellet manufacturer for the private, commercial, and industrial sectors. Sustainability has always played an important role in the company, so it approached us to help formulate its ambitious plans, measure its pellet´s carbon footprint and publish its first sustainability report.

The essence of the project:

We initially helped Warmeston to define its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. Since then, we conducted a carbon footprint analysis annually by following the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and adhering to two internationally accepted ISO standards (ISO 14040: 2006 and ISO 14044: 2006). The carbon footprint assessment covered all four of Warmeston´s pellet factories. It included input of raw material and its transport, resource use within the manufacturing process, pellet transportation to the client and more.

Joint workshops were held with the client to define strategic directions for Warmeston´s sustainability journey. That included selecting priority SDGs and formulating the company’s core values.

Services provided:

  • Setting strategic directions in ESG
  • CO2 impact assessment
  • Creating a sustainability report

Results:

Carbon footprint assessment and developed sustainability framework culminated in a comprehensive sustainability report for 2020. It provided an overview of the company, described its products and manufacturing process, and summarised the carbon footprint assessment.

Two consecutive years after the initial project, Warmeston requested to renew its annual carbon footprint assessment and prepare two additional sustainability reports. That has enabled the company to monitor the changes in its carbon footprint and discover its reasons. It also allowed the client to tackle emissions caused by the company and find solutions for moving towards reduced climate impact.
